If you are looking to get started with decoding L Band satellite data going to aircraft, this is one bundle that will get you monitoring in no time!
For $80 you get a bunch of kit, including an interesting PCB patch antenna, a decent NooElec Sawbird Inmarsat Low Noise Amp (LNA) & filter, along with a short pigtail and several SMA connectors / adapters.
I set it up outside to see what I could receive, and was able to decode 600, 1200, 8400 & 5 out of 7 10500bps channels. I could also receive 2 satellites from my location, which was great news as I am on the edge of coverage of 1 of them.
This NooElec Inmarsat Bundle isn’t quite as comprehensive as the RTL-SDR L Band patch antenna that I previously reviewed, as you’ll need to supply your own tripod mount, and it is not weatherproof for use outdoors. However the kit is made with the good quality components you can expect from NooElec.
