Turns out there was a Ham Radio Outlet (HRO) store in Phoenix. I couldn’t resist popping in to find out more about the Uniden SDS scanners. They’ve been out for a couple of years, and are now being shipped with higher capacity battery pack.

I had a great visit with “Scanner Jim” who demonstrated one of the scanners for me.

Do you think I was able to resist making a purchase?

The SDS scanners are basically SDRs on the inside. They are certainly not what I would call frugal radios, but they are definitely capable of working well with LSM (Simulcast) P25 systems.

At the end of the day I had a fun couple of hours at HRO in Phoenix. If you’re ever nearby, drop in and see the fellas there. They offer loads of HAM radio equipment from transceivers and scanners to SDRs.

The Uniden SDS100 and SDS200 can also be purchased through Amazon and other retailers. If you decide to purchase and click on the links above, you can help support the Frugal Radio website and channel as I will receive a small commission. Of course, you’re always welcome to make a general donation at any time.
